Happy Mother’s Day

I saw a card pictured with cake beaters loaded with batter coming out of the bowl. It said, "A good mom lets her kids lick the beaters." On the inside it said, "A great mom turns the mixer off first!" I love that!
As we approach this national holiday I'm resting easy. I already sent my Mother's Day cards. No last minute scramble for me. Not every year have I been so on schedule. But, this year I'm good.
I watch commercials on television poking fun at grown sons and daughters calling their mothers and when she hears their voice, she faints!
Our lives are so immersed in living, that television has to runs ads to help us remember to call our own mother! Sad, but true.

So, call her. Send a funny card and a real sappy one. That means one that'll make her cry. Even if she lives in the same town, it's nice to go to the mail box and find something that is not junk mail or a bill. And while you're at it buy cards for those other mothers you know. The single moms, aging moms, the woman who has influenced you like a mom. Even a dad who's having to do both.

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal who needs to hear from you. A word of encouragement goes a long way. Seeing it in print gives us a visual so the kindness is not forgotten. God's word does that for us. It continually whispers in our ear of His unfailing love, His enduring love, His forgiving love, His fierce and protective love, His thoughtful and kind love. And then He gave us mothers.

We are seeing God at work in the lives of people as we minister each week. On April 18-19, 2008 I was in New Hampshire for the New England Division Salvation Army Women’s event. We just received this note and wanted to share it with you.

“Kim, I wanted to thank you for the incredible weekend we had in North Conway, New Hampshire last weekend. We had been praying for this particular event for several months and also for your ministry to our ladies. God answered prayer abundantly! Thank you for allowing His Holy Spirit to work through you in such a beautiful way. You would be interested in knowing that after you left, women continued to come to the altar seeking restoration, forgiveness, strength and salvation for at least another hour. We also had four women specifically state that God had called them to full time ministry in The Salvation Army. We praise God for your ministry.”
